1:45 p.m.: Snow showing up -- is it too late

Concerned that the radar back over N. Ga. is thinning out -- hoping our precip doesn't poop out before the VERY tardy cold air arrives in force. We'll be wondering how we lacked cold air tomorrow and tommorow night when it's bone-chilling cold, esp. at night with lows in the teens.

We can start posting comments in this post because the other had gotten so long.

It's really fun to share observations, but if you are trolling I will start deleting your posts.

  1. Snow now accumulating in Hickory.

temp has dropped a whole degree in the past 30 mins or so. Looks like rain slowly changing to snow here near Lattimore. I'd estimate its 25% snow and 75% rain

  3. a lil snow mixing in with the rain when will it make a complete changeover???

  4. Skip I have enjoyed following your winter weather predictions over the last couple of years.

For some reason because I choose to disagree with your logic and you with mine the Skip Foster Fan Club thinks I have a Cavalier attitude.

Anyone who reads all posts from yesterday will see I said no more than an inch and never waivered. Hopefully, I'm wrong. If I am so be it.

    35.1 and all rain here.

  9. Not even sure what we disagree on -- your final call was 1 inch -- mine was 1-2 -- we're both going to miss barring a late flourish.

  10. Now about 40% snow and 60% rain here near Lattimore. Temp is steadily falling at 35.4 degrees. If you look at weather.com's "map in motion" it shows the change-over is just about here!!

Mostly snow on New Prospect Ch Rd., however it is not as steady. Will it pick up Skip?

  12. Radar not looking so hot, but some reports are that even when radar looks bad back in NE Ga. snow continues to fall -- may have something to do with the dry airmass.

Bottom line: I'm pretty pessimistic we'll see accumulation but certainly not ruling it out.

By library off West Sumter in Shelby....

Light snow, small flakes, have been falling for past 15 minutes or so, nothing sticking yet, although it looks like it is trying to stick on some leaves on bushes outside front door here...

If it were only 10 degrees colder, we would be having some fun now...

Another question for Skip...how much commission per loaf of bread and gallon of milk is Teeter, Food Lion, and Ingles paying you for snow promotion?:-)

  50. Anonymous2:56 PM

  70. heavy snow in southern shelby when will it start sticking???

    ReplyDelete
  71. Re: sticking -- if there is precip left as the sun sets, that extra degree or two could help it stick.

NWS just updated and insist we'll see an inch or two.

    I'm still skeptical.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Still steady but moderate snowfall near Mooresboro. Looks like it is mostly snow now with very little rain. Still not sticking, but the temp is down a degree to 35.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Seeing some pretty good snow fall right now in Lawndale with a temp of 35.1

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anonymous4:06 PM

SNOW! SNOW! plenty of snow in kings mt. But the grounds wet not white. I am afraid time it is sunset all the snow would have been spent.

Skip remember that idea about my sled, the star car and you, I begining to think the only sledding going to be happening in shelby is that! I got go contact hoboteck.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Not trying to be a wet blanket, but take a look at the radar for the Southest.

The heavy precipitation is well to our south and east, along a line from Columbia, SC to Greenville, NC.

I hope the NWS is right and we get to see an inch or two but that could be enough to make the roads very dangerous tomorrow morning. Low temps. overnight are predicted to be in the low 20's.

Shelby airport temp. is still 36f.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Anonymous4:13 PM

hmm..everything has stopped here in B. Springs. no rain no snow

    ReplyDelete
  77. Anonymous4:20 PM

Ok... it's doing absolutely NOTHING in Boiling Springs. We had some snow but it was mixed with rain. Now it's doing nodda...is all hope lost for us here??????

    Waiting on the snow!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Anonymous4:24 PM

Things seem slower here in C-ville, while it is colder. If everything that is wet here freezes overnight, that would be very rough.

Looking ahead, see that theres a possibility next week (maybe 2 or 3times?) that we could see wintry weather. Guess I trying not to get down....I want 6-12 inches of snowfall (sometime this year)!! PLEASE??!!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Mooresboro area at the county line..Virtually nothing falling now. VERY light almost a mist. Temp has slipped back up to 37. I was skeptical like Skip and I think this will not be a serious snow event.

That kinda ticks me off..One because I wanted to see the winter wonderland today..And two, not only is this NOT happening..but the temps are predicted to fall, effectively keeping me from going out and getting my party on with my friends for fear of sliding off into a gully! LOL Dagnabbit!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Radar doesn't look good for any measurable snow. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Anonymous5:07 PM

even with no snow -- traveling will be unsafe tonight ... better not get yo party on unless you do it at home! LOL
