New Web site

First of all, we appreciate your patience as we convert to our new site design. We are doing this while simultaneously moving to a new, better, faster server, so lots of complications arising, as would be expected.

Once we work the kinks out, I would love to get your feedback on the new site. While the changes to the print Star involved content and design improvements, this is mainly a redesign, because we've been adding multi-media features to shelbystar.com over the past few months.

Anyway, we are compiling a list of tweaks we need to make on the site-- feel free to post here with things we need to add or, heaven forbid, things you LIKE about the new design!

Like the organization, hate the fonts. Some are weak, some fuzzy, some too bold.... work on the look a little, plus hate the fact you removed the email links off the staff directory. I probably know why but it was an easy way to communicate. Thanks for the effort! I know it will get better!

It seems a whole lot harder to navigate the site now.

I have been an avid reader since I left NC. Needless to say...I hate the new website and will not read it daily.

This new look is not as good as the previous style. The font styles are smaller and harder to read.

Looks pretty good to me. I like the colour selection MUCH more than what used to be here. I generally dislike drop-down menues, because they can drop-down inconveniently while one is browsing - but these at least make sense, given the amount of content one can navigate. Overall, I think you did a good job.

One word, HATE IT! oops that is two words. I hate it and everyone I work with and have talked to hates it. You took a very user friendly foremat for those of us who are not computer geeks to navigate and turned it into a cluster. No doubt your number of visits to this site will greatly diminish. Sorry, but you asked.

I agree. It looked good in the Sunday paper insert announcing the roll-out, but the functionality ain't happenin'

The blogspace, cleveland county kids, message boards and calendar tabs needs to be inched up just a little bit.

The blogs should have date and time.

Can you set filter to automatically delete posts containing the following:

Dream Team
Ordained Minister
and
RFC#...

As for the "New Web Site", It is horrible! What happened to Smack Down? The change was obviously so you could load up the margin with advertising...Why not hire an expert and do it right.

I love it! Good Job!

Is there a way to view the obits and then print an individual obit? The same goes for articles. Other online newspapers offer this feature. Adobe and PDF?

How does one know when a blog has been updated?

For some reason the site is not as much fun. I do not visit it as frequently. On the plus side the print edition is becoming more interesting and better written. Someone must be checking grammar, punctuation and spelling. Some articles are still cut off abruptly.

Keep working on both.

Well, aren't we a critical lot?

Yeah, there are a few things that will take getting used to, but I'm liking the overall look & feel. It's obvious that you are taking things up a notch. The old fonts & layout were NOT great (what were they talking about?!), & this one will be more functional when people get used to it.

Kudos! Looking forward to seeing how you keep improving it. Have a great day ~

1. don't like the new website at all--not even a little.

2. don't like the new look to the printed paper--not even a little.

There are many people in the community very disappointed in the changes being made.

Myself and a bunch of coworkers have the same opinion...

WE HATE IT!

Do you answer any of these questions like "where's the classifieds?? If so where do we go to get them??

The problem with the Star is not the format. It's the news that you print. If I had not read the Charlotte Observer today, I would not know that Monte Towe has been hired by NCS as associate basket ball coach....Your Monday paper is usually terrible. Today I read it between the paper box and the house!

For the last while, when I click on the headline, the article does not come up. Only thing seen is some word down the left side of the page and done with errors at the bottom.

Have not been able to read any articles. Correct problems or go back to the old system.

Print edition is getting worse. It now takes two minutes to look at the paper. Notice that I did not use the word "read." How can this paper improve literacy and educate our students? There is no use of the written word as a means for analyzing, learning and understanding local and world events. It really has become one big local ad.

I waited a week or so to comment just to get used to it. I really don't like it. I thought everyting was better organized before. Now it's harder to find anything.

in a word the new website .....sucks

Please, just once, admit you have made a terrible mistake and take us back to the website we were comfortable with and able to navigate. Surely no one there at the Star can be proud of this cluster! Maybe you can get one of those awards this year for worst website! Listen to the masses and admit it is not working!

On your web index page when viewed with IE, the drop down menu on the red row just below the Star logo, does not show. I switched to Foxfire and was able to view this. Since IE is the most common web browser, you are not allowing them to get to you web sub-pages.
